ACODE 48

ACODE 48 will be held from 17-18 November 2008 at the University of Canberra, University Drive, Bruce, ACT 2617.  The conference venue is Clive Price Suite 1, Building 1 (off Kirinari Street) at the university which is set in a unique environment.   The Campus is a haven of clean air, tall trees and native vegetation, with many different birds, including white cockatoos and resident kangaroos.  Civic, Canberra’s City Centre, is less than 20 minutes away by car or taxi.

Workshop Theme

The workshop theme for ACODE 48 is ‘Emerging Technologies’.   Session presentations will provide an overview of Web 2.0 technologies and trends (http://www.meganpoore.com/) look at two projects investigating the use of social media & personal learning environments (http://cddu.cqu.edu.au/index.php/Personal_Learning_Environments_%40_CQU & http://mashedlc.edu.au/); a presentation and discussion of the recently published web-based lecture technology project (http://www.cpd.mq.edu.au/teaching/wblt/overview.htm); a presentation on ICT in Education (http://utdanning.no/wiki/User:Trond#English_summary) and a case study and discussion on setting up a learning community.

Registrations for ACODE 48 will open in early October.  You can register by completing the    registration form and returning it to the ACODE Executive Officer via email  anita.clarke@canberra.edu.au or by fax 02 6201 5172 by COB Friday 31 October 2008.  For enquiries please phone 02 6201 5176.

Affiliates are able to register to attend both days - the workshop and the business meeting at a cost of $300.  Any extra delegates (other than an ACODE nominee or alternate for each institutional member) wishing to register to attend either the ACODE workshop or business dinner will be charged at cost-recovery only.

Transportation options for getting around Canberra

Canberra is very easy to navigate by car, bus http://www.action.act.gov.au/default.html  or taxi.  Sharing taxis to and from the university campus may be an option if staying at the Pavilion on Northbourne or with other delegates elsewhere.  Booking numbers for taxis in Canberra are: Canberra Cabs 132227 or Silver Service Canberra 133100


Flights and accommodation

ACODE delegates are responsible for booking their own flights and accommodation.   Making arrangements early is recommended and flight information can be obtained by visiting Qantas Schedule Search.

Accommodation

ACODE secretariat has reserved group accommodation at preferential rates of $145 per night at the Pavilion on Northbourne.  A block of deluxe rooms, each including a full buffet breakfast for one, have been reserved with the group code of ‘ACODE’.  To access these rooms please quote the ‘ACODE’ rate code upon booking (via telephone Free Call (Australia) 1800 828000 or +61 2 6247 6888 direct to the hotel).

To be eligible for preferential rates over the ACODE 48 period, these 4.5 star Deluxe Rooms (or 1 bedroom apartments at a rate of $195 per night, also 4.5 star rating and inclusive of full buffet breakfast for one) will need to be booked directly with the hotel prior to 16 October, as unconfirmed rooms will be released from block 4 weeks prior to arrival and will then be subject to availability.  (Bookings are able to be cancelled with 48 hours notice for no penalty, or full refund, to be applicable.)
